Business Boss: Meet Emily Jamison!

An artist with the goal of making your events extra special!

By Kristin Fouts November 9, 2022

Questions and answers (and inspiration!) with Emily Jamison, owner of Pink Flamingo Balloons in Plainfield. If you attended the Here We Grow Again Indy-West consignment sale in October, you walked by several of her creations! Let her build something unique and memorable for your next event! Follow her at @pinkflamingoballoons on Instagram and Facebook.

1. What (or who) inspired you to start your business?

I was inspired by my love of all things beautiful/aesthetic and to create something from nothing, and the ability to make some money on the weekends to supplement our family income!

2. What do you love most about the work you do?

I love leaving a job knowing it's well done, and the client is thrilled with the result! I also cherish the ability to do the lion's share of the work from my home where I homeschool my children, so there's no need for childcare or missing out on my time with them.

3. What advice do you have for others wanting to start a business?

Make sure you keep your personal and business finances separate so it's easier to tell if you're profitable or not.  Getting an LLC and an EIN number isn't as hard or scary as I thought it would be.  Also, using your location (Plainfield, Hendricks) in your business name will help get you website traffic in Google searches.

 4. What do you do to take care of yourself, and how do you make/find time to do it?

With 5 kids, free time is at a minimum.  My husband and I have always had an early bedtime for our kids, and after they're in their rooms for the night, we can watch our shows, order Door Dash, and just be ourselves instead of parents.  I like to knit, embroider, and paint my nails during that free time as well.

5. What can we readers do to support you in the community?

Don't put balloon decor in a "box."  Balloons can be elegant enough for a wedding, as well as cutesy for a birthday party!  Send your friends to pinkflamingoballoons.com to see some examples of my work!

6. What is your favorite spot to visit around Hendricks County?

My teen daughters and I love Simply Chic because it gives us a great chance to shop consignment and save on our clothing budget.  Our family loves Frigid Frog as well! They love to engage with the community and network with other businesses in the area.  Plus, I love their caramel corn!
