7 Things Your Family Will LOVE to Do in September!

By Kristin Fouts August 24, 2022

Oh, September. The kids are back to school, the sun is going down earlier, the nights are cooler ... and fall officially arrives.

But did you know it's also the month to eat a cheeseburger, celebrate comic books, and talk like a pirate?

Here are 7 September holidays that can help you have a ton of fun with your kids  in Hendricks County!

1. Order a pizza!
Sept. 5

Yum, yum... get me some! National Cheese Pizza Day is the perfect day to order dinner from your favorite pizza spot in Hendricks County! Everyone has their preferences, but here's are some of our family's local favorites:

  • Rockstar Pizza (Brownsburg)
  • Mason Inn (Pittsboro)
  • Mediterranean Pizza (Brownsburg)
  • Papa Murphy's (Avon or Plainfield)

2. Celebrate grandma and grandpa!
Sept. 11

If they live nearby, take grandma and grandpa out on the town on National Grandparents' Day to their favorite restaurant. If that's not possible? Send a card or make a phone call! This is also a good excuse for the kids to make a craft! Visit some of these local make-and-take shops for ideas:

3. Eat a cheeseburger
Sept. 18

If there's anything we love more than pizza, it's cheeseburgers! Find and enjoy your local favorite on National Cheeseburger Day!

4. Talk like a pirate
Sept. 19

Aaaaargh! It's talk like a pirate day! Celebrate by dressing the part, and tell some funny jokes!

5. Try for a hole in one
Sept. 21

Surprise the kids with a trip to one of the greater Indy area's mini golf courses on National Miniature Golf Day! Who can get a hole-in-one? Here are three we've played at:

6. Welcome fall!
Sept. 22

Fall has arrived! Many of our favorite local events take place in fall! Here are three events in Hendricks County my family won't miss this year:

  • Trail & Treat, October 29, 5-7pm at Williams Park (Brownsburg)
  • Fall Festivals EVERY DAY September 17-October 30 at Beasley's Orchard (Danville)
  • Peep that gorgeous foliage    at McCloud Nature Park (North Salem)

7. Buy a comic book
Sept. 25

Visit a local bookstore on National Comic Book Day to find a comic book or character figure your kid will love! Here are some great places to check out:
