Support Susie's Place This Holiday Season

Start with their Amazon Wish List!

By Kristin Fouts December 15, 2021

Susie's Place is a child advocacy center with three locations in Avon, Terre Haute, and Bloomington, Indiana. The centers work collaboratively with local law enforcement, prosecutors, child protective services, and medical and mental health professionals to investigate and intervene in reports of crimes against children and child abuse. The child advocacy centers provide a neutral, safe, child-friendly space for children to share their experiences and begin to heal and recover.   Susie’s Place also provides child abuse prevention education and body safety programming to students in grades K-12 throughout Hendricks County, and across central and western Indiana.

Susie's Place is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, not a government agency. They need the support of the community to be able to continue to offer the prevention, child and family advocacy services, and forensic interviews to reported child victims in our area.

Recently, Susie's Place posted their Amazon Wish List on social media, and it caught my attention. I wondered how these supplies would be used, and how families could support Susie's Place throughout the year. I reached out for more details and want to share the important information with you:

  • The supplies on their Amazon Wish List help support day-to-day operations at Susie's Place. All supplies are utilized to ensure children feel safe and comfortable while at the centers, and to assist the organization in achieving its mission.  Staff members do all they can to keep the center's environment welcoming and comfortable, and supplies like diapers, snacks, craft items, games and blankets help achieve that.
  • Beyond the holidays, there are several ways you can support Susie's Place:
    • Donations of monetary and physical gifts are always welcome. Supplies like easel paper, movies, new or clean used toys, and toiletries are also needed year-round.
    • The center welcomes volunteerism, as well, in areas including education and outreach, computer work, mailing, and landscaping.
    • Sign up to cover a month's worth of snacks for the center closes to you! This supports the staff team as well as families who use the centers' services.
    • Learn more about ways you can get involved and support the center on the Susie's Place website and on Facebook

Child abuse can impact any family in Hendricks County.  Children need their safe, trusted adults to report any concerns of child abuse or neglect immediately to local law enforcement or the Indiana Child Abuse Hotline at 800-800-5556. Susie's Place receives referrals from law enforcement or DCS only for forensic interviews and not from the general public. However, if a community member has questions or needs resources regarding a child in need of services, they are welcome to reach out to Susie’s Place for support.

Please follow Susie's Place on social media to learn more about the variety of ways you and your family can support their centers now and throughout the year.
