Business Boss: Meet Presley Pullan!

Art + food= booming business

By Kristin Fouts December 14, 2021

Questions and answers (and inspiration!) with Presley Pullan, the creative genius behind Brownsburg's newest small business, Brie & Bartlett! She makes mouths water with her beautiful and delicious charcuterie boards (both savory AND sweet!) and catering business. You can find Brie & Bartlett at 1060 E Main St., suite #417 in Brownsburg (in the Best Friends Bagels building).

1. What (or who) inspired you to start your business?

I was in the process of starting an animal rescue several months ago, and for one of our first fundraisers I made Valentine's Day charcuterie boxes. They were an absolute hit, and I thought, you know? I could really do this!

2. What do you love most about the work you do?

I love that I get to be creative for a living; and my art is edible, so I get to share it with people over and over again. I've always been a creative, and I get so much joy from seeing beautiful things from my imagination come to life. And, to be able to share that with people on such a  large scale is just an absolute dream.

3. What advice do you have for others wanting to start a business?

For the average entrepreneur, your first business venture is probably not going to be the one that takes off. It might take 2, 3, 4 tries to find your niche. You have to learn to be okay with rejection, with failure, with plans falling through, because there's something new to learn every time it happens until you find the thing that sticks. But if you're both consistent and persistent, you'll find success when you least expect it.

4.  What do you do to take care of yourself, and how do you make/find time to do it?

It's so easy to get excited and to become completely engrossed in work at all times. In the beginning there's this burst of energy and excitement, and you're just in "go mode" all the time, and that's one of the quickest ways to burn out.

I'm a bit of a workaholic, but my husband and I love camping and travelling, so when I feel like I need to regroup, I'll block a couple of days off and deliberately book a camping trip in a rural area with no reception so that I'm forced to take a break.

5. What can we readers do to support you in the community?
It's been amazing just to see what word of mouth alone can do for a small business. Brie and Bartlett was shared to just three Facebook groups in Hendricks County and within a month, my Facebook page went from 40 likes on Facebook to over 900! We encourage everyone to follow our Facebook page Brie & Bartlett Fine Grazing + Charcuterie to stay updated on the latest deals!

6.  Favorite spot to go around or near Hendricks County?

Karen Street Thai Food inside of Saraga International Grocery is a hidden gem--the avocado boba and spring rolls are to die for!
