Fall Break is fast approaching and while some families have plans to travel to the beach, go camping, or visit family far away, others (like mine) are staying put for a variety of reasons. Here is a list of great ways to encourage quality time together as a family that won't break the bank!
- Have a bonfire and roast marshmallows! Don't have a fire pit? Many local parks have outdoor grills that are free to use!
- Go for a walk in one of our local parks, or hike one of our favorite local trails or state parks! Be prepared with these tips.
- Go to a thrift store and put together silly costumes
- Make candy/caramel apples
- Have a chili cook-off among your family
- Visit a corn maze
- Dress up and have a neighbor or friend take family pictures
- Go geocaching
- Visit a local library. Some have fun events planned!
- On a clear night, lay out blankets and look for constellations in the stars
- Carve pumpkins and let your Facebook friends judge them!
- Volunteer around your neighborhood or in the city. Colder temps mean more help is often needed to serve meals.
- Have a Halloween movie night where each family member picks their favorite!
- Make up a picnic and take it to a local park
- Make trail mix with everyone's favorite nuts, pretzels, and sweets
- Let your kids script a spooky Halloween story or play and record them acting it out! Share with family and friends.
- Start a grateful journal
- Find a massive puzzle and work on it together each day
- Fly kites in an open field or at a park
- Visit a pumpkin patch or apple orchard
- Gather nonperishable donations for a local food bank or Blessing Boxes
