Fall Break Programs @ Local Libraries

Keep your family engaged and active

Most districts around Hendricks County go on Fall Break in mid-October. Luckily, some of our outstanding local libraries have programs and activities that can keep your school-aged kids active and engaged. NOTE: Some of these are regular library programs. Check each calendar for more information!

BROWNSBURG PUBLIC LIBRARY

  • The library has partnered with the Brownsburg Parks Department to host a Fall Break Park Challenge on Beanstack! Join this fun challenge to visit some of the awesome features of our local parks for a chance to win a prize pack with prizes from the Parks and the Library.
  • October 11, all day: Take & Make Phases of the Moon-- Registration closes 10/7; create phases of the moon with Oreo cookies!
  • October 13, 4-4:45pm: LEGO Club-- Registration closes at Noon on 10/13; kids ages 5-10 can play and build together!
  • October 18, 6-7pm: Emoji Art Night-- Registration closes at 3pm on 10/18; kids ages 11-18 can draw emjoi on canvas to take home!
  • October 20, 2-3pm: Paper Airplane STEM Lab-- Registration closes at 9am on 10/20; kids ages 6-10 can learn about the science of flight and build their own paper aircraft.
  • October 21, 1-2pm: A Recipe for Fun: Pizza Mania!-- Registration closes at 8am on 10/21; kids ages 6-10 can make their own no bake pizzas (traditional, dessert, fruit, etc.) to take home!
  • October 22, 4:30-5:30pm-- First Chapter Fridays-- Registration closes at 9am on 10/22; kids ages 6-10 will read the first chapters of a different book each month, then do fun activities based on the book. This month's selection is Bob  by Wendy Mass & Rebecca Stead.


DANVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

  • September 23-October 23, all day: Cityscape: Where Science and Art Meet, Downtown Danville Scavenger Hunt-- Read Cityscape: Where Science and Art Meet by April Pulley Sayre and complete a scavenger hunt around Danville! Copies of the book and scavenger hunt resources available at the library.
  • October 16, 9am-5pm: Teen Tech Saturdays-- A fun day of games using the Nintendo Wii. Snacks will be provided!
  • October 21, 12-7pm: K-6 STEAM Thursdays-- Explore science, technology, engineering art and math with a variety of materials like Legos, tangrams, snap circuits and more. 


PLAINFIELD-GUILFORD TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY

  • October 12, 2-2:30pm: Make It-- art projects, crafts and more
  • October 14, 4-5pm: Library Ambassadors-- join the teen advisory group to suggest books and program ideas and earn volunteer hours!
  • October 14, 5-5:30pm: Spooky Scary Scarecrows-- storytime and scarecrow craft
  • October 16, 1-4pm: Switch Saturday-- bring friends for playing games on the Nintendo Switch (teens only)
  • October 18, all day: Squishy's Birthday-- celebrate our turtle's birthday with activities, stories and treats
  • October 18, 3:15-4:15pm: DIY Mummy Figurine-- learn about mummies and make your own (teens only)
  • October 19, 3:15-4:15pm: Beetlejuice and Blackout Poetry-- create spooky poems while watching the film Beetlejuice
  • October 20, 5:30-6pm: Make It-- art projects, crafts and more
  • October 21, 4-5pm: Name That Tune-- join for a friendly competition to see who has the fastest music recognition (teens only)
  • October 21, 4:30-5:30pm: IN Your Backyard: Bats-- learn about different types of bats in IN through a story by a Hendricks County Parks naturalist
