MKH Library Tour: Brownsburg Public Library

Meet your local libraries!

By Kristin Fouts August 16, 2021

The Brownsburg Public Library has had a lot to celebrate in the last two years, despite most services being shut down during the pandemic. In January 2020, the library completed a major renovation that resulted in a brighter, more modern experience for all patrons. A new website also makes it easier to find materials and view upcoming events, and the addition of three digital platforms allows patrons to download e-books and audiobooks (see Overdrive and Libby), music and graphic novels (see Hoopla), and TV shows (see Kanopy)!

Address: 450 S. Jefferson St., Brownsburg

Hours: Sunday 1-5pm, Monday-Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm

Did you know? Several Hendricks County libraries support reciprocal borrowing, which means  most residents can get a free library card and borrow items from these libraries: Avon-Washington Township, Brownsburg, Clayton-Liberty Township, Coatesville-Clay Township, and Danville. Residents in Pittsboro and Lizton need to purchase a library membership in order to participate. The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is part of the Evergreen network, connecting it with more than 100 other libraries across the state for sharing privileges. Those outside of Plainfield who wish to check out books and resources must purchase a Public Library Access Card (PLAC)  at the library's front desk.

The children's area is light and welcoming, with new seating, free tablets loaded with fun games, and great new toys coming soon! Low shelving makes it easy to locate favorite titles, and a few large classrooms are often occupied by story time sessions, club meetings and karate practice. Check out their active online calendar for upcoming programs.

Tweens and teens also have their own spaces with computers for use by kids only, a dedicated classroom, and a cool lounge space. These age groups can participate in a monthly book club and a virtual cooking club!

The second Tuesday of each  month is a  "Secondhand Tuesday" where a selection of used books is  available for patrons to purchase for just $1 per bag (provided by the library).

Library visitors who need a quiet space to work can utilize one of several available study rooms (capacities range from 2-8) on a first-come-first-served basis, and several other larger meeting rooms are available for use by community organizations (by reservation). History buffs will enjoy the original library's information desk on display in front of a massive mural of historical photos from around Brownsburg.

Finally, check out the new pollinator garden and enjoy a walk on the new Thomas A. Kays Walking Path around the west, north, and east sides of the building. Add in the front sidewalk and the loop is a quarter mile!
