8 Fun Workouts for Kids

Get your family moving again!

If you're like me, staying in the house for just one day results in a lot of time sitting on the couch or the bed. Even craft activities have you sitting or standing still. When the weather is nice, it's easy enough to get the kids to play in the back yard or go for a quick walk in your neighborhood. But what about when we are hunkering down at home for an extended period of time?

Staying in the house for several weeks at a time can be a physical fitness disaster! Besides being physically healthy, regular exercise helps with mood and anxiety--which is something kids (and really, all of us) could use regular doses of right now. Our local Parks & Rec departments and fitness instructors in the YouTube world are coming to the rescue with fun and engaging workouts that actually might have your kids asking for more!

Try some of these kids' workouts everyday to get your family moving:

  1. Brownsburg Parks & Rec: now has a “Virtual Recreation” section to their website with links to online classes (including family cardio) and ideas for outdoor activities!

  2. GoNoodle: One of our favorites, GoNoodle's 2 - 3 minute workouts are great for brain-breaks during long stretches of e-learning.

  3. Jedi Workout by Glenn Higgins Fitness: Glenn gives all kinds of pop culture fitness options: Star Wars Jedi Workout, Avengers Training Academy, Fortnite Dance Workout, Harry Potter 'Hogwarts' School Workout.

  4. P.E. with JoeP.E. Teacher from the UK would like to teach physical education to the nation (and other nations like the U.S.!) Videos are 5 - 16 minutes long. Watch LIVE on YouTube Monday - Friday.

  5. Kidz Bop Workouts: Get your tweens dancing! Dance to a single, or choose the 34-minute or 60-minute complications.

  6. Cosmic Kids Yoga: Various kids' character themed yoga (including Frozen and Moana) to turn your little ones into yogis in no time.

  7. Yoga for Teens:  Yoga with Adriene teaches how to practice self-care with this video made specifically made for teens.
