Hello from Your New Publisher!

By Krista Hershey January 9, 2020

My name is Krista Hershey (just like the chocolate bar.) I've been helping with Macaroni Kid Hendricks since last spring. But starting this week, I'm super excited to be your new Macaroni Kid Publisher!

Macaroni--well, pasta in general--is kind of important in our house because our kids LOVE it. Do I want to reward the kids for being patient during a long, boring day? Pasta for dinner. Do we want to bring smiles to everyone's faces? Pasta for dinner. Can't think of anything to make for supper? Pasta for dinner. It’s plain, gluten-filled, buttered-and-salted happiness for the Hershey children. So, macaroni is a life-line for our family and perfectly fits with working with Macaroni Kid!

One of my best roles in life is being a mom.

You know that saying: "The days are long, but the years are short?" I think the days and years are both short! Kids grow up fast. Getting through the days while simultaneously soaking in the quality moments is no easy task. But I wouldn't trade in this journey for anything else.

We have a teenager, a preteen, and a preschooler. They are hilarious, creative, thoughtful sweethearts who like warm hugs just like Olaf.

I also get to be married to my favorite person through this parenting journey! My husband is really great. He has this knack for asking people questions that I wouldn't think of in a million years. If you ever get a chance to meet him, you should. He works in his "everything will work out," laid-back personality with some of my control-freak and detail-oriented tendencies developed over the years from managing a household with three kids. I think we make a good team.

Our family travels when we can, and have been blessed with opportunities to visit some amazing places like the Waimea Canyon in Kauai, lots of national parks out west, every Abraham Lincoln historic site from his birthplace in Kentucky to Ford's Theater, and some of the "World's Largest" items in Casey, IL (home of the world's largest rocking chair, wind chime, crochet hook, and golf tee to name a few) on our way back from rooting on the St. Louis Cardinals.

We started a church in Plainfield about six years ago called The Branches, which meets every Sunday morning at the Richard A. Carlucci Rec & Aquatic Center, complete with baptisms in the waterpark pools. We also get to run Mega Kids Camp--a free sports and science camp during fun-filled week in June at the Rec Center. You should come check it out! (Bonus: You can meet my family there!)

Our family delights in friends and family, rock climbing gyms, hikes, bike rides, good music, quality ice cream, and popcorn movie nights.

We absolutely love living in Hendricks County, supporting our community, and exploring new places. I'm thrilled to get share these things with you through the Macaroni Kid Hendricks calendar and newsletter!
