It's the end of the school year, and all we can think about is summer! The beginning of summer--to me--always indicates the excitement of summer reading. More than just keeping your child's brain working when school isn't in session, learning to read regularly will hopefully spark an interest in reading throughout your child's life.
Tips to Keep Summer Reading Going all Summer long:
- Set a goal with your child. Have them help you keep track of her progress.
- Read to your child at bedtime every night.
- If your child can read on his own, make it a rule to read at least 20 minutes a day. (And realize that in the busy days of summer that doesn't always actually happen.)
- Give your children healthy snacks as they read to bribe them, if necessary. (We pop popcorn.)
- Go to the library on the same day every week to return and check out new books.
- Go to the various library events throughout the summer.
