Easy Bird Nest Craft

Repurpose Cardboard, Plastic Eggs, and even Junk Mail!

By Krista Hershey April 4, 2019

Spring is in the air and Easter is around the corner. If you can spare a couple of extra plastic eggs (ha!) or have a few halves without their matching partner, you can do this cute bird nest craft with your own littles

What you need:

  • A couple plastic egg halves (the round ones work better than the pointy ones)
  • Paper plate, brown paper, cardboard, newspaper, or junk mail
  • Scissors
  • White scrap paper
  • Crayons
  • Little bits of orange paper
  • Black permanent marker
  • Glue stick
  • Another stronger glue of choice: either hot glue or white craft glue

What to do:

  1. Trace and cut a circle out of cardboard about 8 inches in diameter; or, use a paper plate. (You can use a small plate or bowl to trace a perfect circle!)

  2. Either have your child cut strips of paper or, if they can’t work scissors yet, you can cut “fringe” for them to tear off the pieces. This is the nest!

  3. Using a glue stick, glue strips of paper all over the paper plate or big circle.

  4. Have your child color a piece of white paper with a crayon color that closely matches the egg color, then cut “wings.”

  5. Use a glue stick to glue the wings and hot glue to glue the eggs onto the nest.

  6. Cut small diamond shapes out of orange paper. Hot glue one on the top of each egg.

  7. Using the permanent marker, place two dot eyes on top of each egg.

This activity is great for kids who are learning to match colors, to use scissors, and to use glue.
